Welcome & Announcements

Invocation (Prayer)

* Hymn: #2223 “They Will Know We are Christians by Our Love

1. We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord,

we are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord,

and we pray that all unity may one day be restored:

And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love;

yes, they'll know we are Christians by our love.

2. We will walk with each other, we will walk hand in hand,

we will walk with each other, we will walk hand in hand,

and together we'll spread the news that God is in our land:

And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love;

yes, they'll know we are Christians by our love.

3. We will work with each other, we will work side by side,

we will work with each other, we will work side by side.

and we'll guard human dignity and save human pride:

And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love;

yes, they'll know we are Christians by our love.

4. All praise to the Father, from whom all things come,

and all praise to Christ Jesus, God's only Son,

and all praise to the Spirit, who makes us on:

And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love;

yes, they'll know we are Christians by our love.

* Passing of the Peace

* Hymn: #2021  “What a Mighty God We Serve”

what a mighty God we serve,

what a mighty God we serve,

what a mighty God we serve!

2. Let us sing and praise the Lord,

let us sing and praise the Lord,

let us sing and praise the Lord,

let us sing and praise the Lord!

3. Let us show and praise God's name

let us show and praise God's name

let us show and praise God's name

let us show and praise God's name!

4. What a mighty God we serve,

what a mighty God we serve,

what a mighty God we serve,

what a mighty God we serve!

A Reading From: Luke 10:38 - 42                  Liturgist

At the Home of Martha and Mary

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a]Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Liturgist: Lift up your hearts

People: We lift them up to the Lord

* Hymn #2007   “Holy, Holy, Holy” 2x’s

Holy, holy, holy.

My heart, my heart adores you!

My heart knows how to say to you:

You are holy, Lord!

Joys and Concerns

*Closing Hymn: #133 “Leaning On The Everlasting Arms”

1. What a fellowship, what a joy divine, leaning on the everlasting arms; what a blessedness, what a peace is mine, leaning on the everlasting arms. Leaning (Leaning on Jesus), leaning (leaning on Jesus), safe and secure from all alarms; leaning (leaning on Jesus), leaning (leaning on Jesus), leaning on the everlasting arms.

2. O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way, leaning on the everlasting arms; O how bright the path grows from day to day, leaning on the everlasting arms. Leaning (Leaning on Jesus), leaning (leaning on Jesus), safe and secure from all alarms; leaning (leaning on Jesus), leaning (leaning on Jesus), leaning on the everlasting arms.

3. What have I to dread, what have I to fear, leaning on the everlasting arms? I have blessed peace with my Lord so near, leaning on the everlasting arms. Leaning (Leaning on Jesus), leaning (leaning on Jesus), safe and secure from all alarms; leaning (leaning on Jesus), leaning (leaning on Jesus), leaning on the everlasting arms.

PRAYER OF APPROACH (In unison) Responding to God’s call

Gracious God, we are Your children; and as Your children we are called to confront giants and to venture away from the safety of the shore. We need You to go with us; and know Your Word – Jesus who lives in us - has the power to overcome the giants and to calm the seas. Help us to believe it is true for us.  In Christ's name we pray. Amen.
