October 2019 Church Newsletter

Greetings! Grace and Peace to you in the name of Christ our Lord.

As we enter the beautiful autumn season, we also enter the season in which we conduct our annual pledge campaign.

A parishioner once complained that Christianity is one continual request to give, give, give. His pastor replied: “Thank you sir, for the finest definition of Christianity I have ever heard. That’s the way it all began. God gave. In fact, God gave God’s only Son. In addition, God’s Son gave. Jesus gave His life on the cross that we may have life. His disciples gave. They left their homes and businesses to devote themselves full-time to Christ as proclaimers of the Good News. All but one of the twelve disciples literally gave his life for Christ.

I guess that the parishioner was right. Christianity is about giving. It’s about giving with purpose, and stewardship is the purposeful use and conservation of all of God’s gifts. Stewardship is not just a material practice, it is a spiritual practice.

Unfortunately, to some, stewardship boils down to nothing more than filling out a pledge card once a year. Many of us have moved away from the spiritual aspect of giving.

Christian giving is based in the belief that each person lives in Christ, and is nurtured by the church. The church teaches that “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Caring for the poor and the distressed, visiting the sick and the helpless, being a light to those who live in darkness; these are the guiding principles of church stewardship.

We at St. Andrews UMC are faithfully following God’s call toward life-changing mission and ministry. We continue to enhance our existing programs at the church, so that they connect with the emerging needs of our community. We have done much to share the bright light of Christ in Lacey. There is no other way to say it, YOUR GIFTS make all of our ministries possible! Thank You. Thank You. Thank You.

God continues to open new doors for us as we continue to boldly proclaim new life in Christ through vibrant worship, authentic hospitality, and beloved community. With your prayers and continued involvement, we will walk in faith through the new days to come. We celebrate our strengths only because of your generosity.

October 6th marks the beginning of our church pledge campaign, and we will dedicate our pledges on October 27th when we will come together in one worship service at 10:00 am. If you haven’t already, you will receive a letter asking that you once again, prayerfully consider making a generous and meaningful commitment to the work of our church.

We offer thanks for our congregation and the mission and ministries of this church, as we serve the Risen Christ. May we continue to move forward in faith, reaching out as the heart, hands and feet of Jesus.

In Mission and Ministry with you, Pastor Denise

Music Notes

Hello everyone,

Here we are at the beginning of another great music season; the choir has begun rehearsals—we has several new pieces of music to present to the second service this fall with much more to come in new music for Advent and Christmas. At the present time, we would like to see a few more singers, (particularly altos) but we would be thrilled if we had some more folks from the congregation (as well as all newcomers to St. Andrews) to join us —and please know that we would be overjoyed to have you with us on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 pm, no matter what parts you may sing!

I would like to have the bell choir begin either the second or third week of November. I would like to hear from our regular bell ringers as well as all interested individuals very soon—I need to know how many would be available, in order to select music for a specific number of bells. If at all possible, we’d like to know how many weeks you would be available—the first priority is to know who we will have to ring for each Sunday between now and Christmas. And if you would only be available for a few of the services, it is also good to have folks who would be able to fill in for someone who cannot be here on any given Sunday. If you are at all interested, even if you’ve never played bells before, please contact me asap.

As always, thank you for your continued support and encouragement.

Blessings, Paul

Preschool News

What an amazing and exciting time it is to watch children as they learn and grow in a community setting that loves God and our world he has created. We are the luckiest of all as we share in their growth and understanding.

Preschool has gotten off to a great start! In October, we will be celebrating with a Harvest Party and making stone soup together. We will dress like farmers and farm animals, so don’t be surprised if you stop by and see a horse or cow galloping down the hallways.

We will take our first field trip to the Pumpkin Patch. This is a fun and exciting field trip and all of our families are invited to join in.

Watch the Preschool Art Wall in the hallway for our exciting creations that we make and display. We may be a famous artist someday and you are seeing our beautiful work for the first time.

Are you ready to volunteer is class? Please let your Teacher know...we have projects for you.

We have one open spot in our Monday/Wednesday/Friday Afternoon class, so if you have a friend with a 4 year old please tell them about out program and invite them in to check us out. If you refer the family that registers you will get 1/2 off your monthly tuition and so will they!!!!
