Continued Prayers For:

Pastor Denise

August 31,2020

Dear Beloveds,

Thank you for your prayers, your well wishes and your cards.  They have really been sustaining for me, especially as we have not been able to gather face to face.  I want to share the latest from the consultation I had with my cardiac surgeon yesterday. Unfortunately, the news of my continuing heart saga is not good.

First, my heart is quite enlarged.  Apparently, this condition has been occurring over several years, even though I have had no symptoms.  Both valves of my heart are severely damaged and in need of replacement.

The surgeon has scheduled me for valve replacement surgery for both valves on Tues., Sept 15 th.  Surgery will be a minimum of 5 hrs, and I can expect to be in the hospital for 7 to 8 days following surgery.  I can also expect in-home recovery for 2 to 3 weeks.  Hopefully, after that, I will just get stronger and stronger.

The good news is that right now, I am doing pretty well.  The meds are doing their job, and other than a slightly reduced amount of stamina, I am proceeding with my usual activities.  I feel surrounded by your love and your prayers, and I know that God is with me through this.  Thank you for your continued support.  I will keep you posted.

God Bless You All,

Pastor Denise

Greetings Beloved Family,

I have missed you so much. Thank you for your prayers. I am so excited to let you know that I am finally back home. They took great care of me at the hospital, but there is no place like home. And home is so beautiful. Thank you all for the cleaning, the yard work, the cards and flowers and everything else that you did to make my homecoming so fabulous. I really don’t have the words to thank you, but I hold you all in deep gratitude.

I will be taking it a bit easy for a few days as I get a schedule figured out with my medications, but I hope to be back on track by next week.

I will stay in touch.

Love You All,

Pastor Denise

Great News! August 18

Pastor Denise is home! She was delivered home at 1:00 pm this afternoon and is comfortably resting with her pups by her side. Thank you for all of the prayers, cards and heartfelt notes that have been sent.

She will be taking it easy for a few days and she has a check-up with her cardiologist next week. We are also hoping that her lung biopsy results will be back soon.

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone that came by her house on Monday to weed, prune and clean up the inside. She was truly taken back by all the love that has been sent her way.

Good Afternoon, - August 17, 2020

Pastor Denise had her lung biopsy this morning. They took her into surgery at 9:30 am and she called me about 2:30pm.  Unfortunately, she won't be coming home today. Evidently she has a leaky lung and they will have to wait till tomorrow to see if it closes up on it's own. If it doesn't she will have to have a shunt or stint put in, she wasn't sure what they called it.  As you can imagine she was a bit disappointed and sad.  But she is so very thankful that they have her medication keeping her heart stable.

Keep those prayers coming! We are praying this heals on it's own and she's able to come home tomorrow.

Good Morning, August 16, 2020

I just talked to Pastor Denise and she is in very good spirits! At 9:00 this morning the hospital had a prayer over the room intercoms and that really warmed her heart.

She spoke with both of her doctors this morning and the consensus is that she will go home late Monday afternoon or early Tuesday. She will have a biopsy Monday morning on her lung but they told her that is a fairly easy thing and she should be up and around just a couple of hours afterwards.

She said that they have her medication stable and feel comfortable that she can go home to rest and she should start feeling better with each day.

Her pups are at my house having a field trip and have enjoyed playing with my little dogs. Thank you to everyone that offered to help with them.

I am going to do a bit of grocery shopping this evening to put some fresh options in her fridge for when she gets home. (She's not super thrilled that she has to have a "No Salt" diet)

We are looking for anyone that would be willing to come by her house and weed the front flower beds and trim back the bushes. Especially the one that hangs over her walkway to the front door. We are going to try and have this done by Monday afternoon so that when she comes home she can rest and not fuss over it or have to visit right away with anyone. She will need lots of rest once she gets home. Please let me know if you are willing to help I can send you her address. We will try not gathering too many people there at one time, we still need to be mindful of social distancing.

Thank you for your continued prayers.

Good Saturday Afternoon, August 15, 2020

I was able to talk with Pastor Denise for quite a while today and she it feeling good and in really good spirits. Her tests yesterday went really well and the doctor said there were no surprises in what he saw. Her cardiologist thinks they have a good mix of medication and are able to control her heart and her swelling and fluid retention has gone way down.

Her next hurdle will be Monday when she will have a biopsy on her lung. Back in April they noticed a spot of her lung and after her CT Scan in the hospital it was still there. They feel it warrants a better look and they will do that Monday.

If all goes well with her lung biopsy she may get to come home on Monday evening or Tuesday morning.  She will have other things that will need to happen (probably at least one valve replacement) but they feel they should be able to wait until her heart gets used to it's medication.

Please continue lifting her up in prayer.

Good Morning, - August 15, 2020

I spoke to Pastor Denise last night and she was able to have both procedures done yesterday afternoon. She was still groggy from the sedation when I talked to her and hadn't seen the doctor (at least she didn't think that she had). They have moved her to the 10th floor late last night.

I will send another update once I hear from her today.

Good Morning, - August 14, 2020

Talked with Pastor Denise late last night and she is still stable and in good spirits. She is craving a snickers bar or any chocolate. Which she isn't allowed to eat yet.

I have tried calling this morning but haven't been able to reach her which is probably a good sign that they have taken her to get her two procedures done. She promised last night that as soon as she was recovered she would call and let me know how everything went.  As soon as I hear, I will let everyone know.

Praying for quick recovery after her procedures.

If you would like to send a card to Pastor Denise please send it to the church address. We will be gathering them and dropping them off to her.

August 12 - 8:17 pm

Good Evening

I spoke with Pastor Denise this afternoon and she sounded chipper and well rested. Back to her kind loving self that we love.

She is on several medications and will have a scope procedure tomorrow to check more in-depth on her heart function. She said she is feeling much better and can walk a bit without being winded which is an improvement over how she has been feeling.

Pastor Denise has a long way to go and we will continue to update you nightly as we learn more on her condition. That being said, please do not call her cell phone to check on her directly. She really needs her uninterrupted rest and at times the nurse has turned her cell phone ringer off so that she can get that rest. If you know a member without email, please reach out to them and share these updates so they know what is happening with Pastor Denise.

Please also understand that many calls are coming into the church office inquiring about Denise and I will try and get back to you when I can. A great way to find out any updates is to just read these emails or send me an email and I will reply as soon as possible.

Thank you for lifting Pastor Denise up in prayers.

August 11th, 2020

Dear Congregation,

I am writing this to keep you informed about the health of Pastor Denise. Over the past week or more (she has been pretty sick since March but had gotten progressively worse over the last week), she has felt exhausted, no appetite, no sense of taste or smell and losing weight. She visited her doctor who ran some tests and determined she has some heart problems (the doctor's words were: "severe heart failure" in her report after having an echo cardiogram last Thursday). She returned home with a appointment to see a Cardiologist on Aug, 18.

Kathy and Janie have been monitoring her condition and determined that she was getting worse and couldn't wait until the 18th. Today (Tue.) they took her to the Emergency Room at St. Pete's. Janie could stay with her in the Waiting Room for a short while but Kathy could not. Kathy was able to monitor her condition via phone contact with Denise and an Emergency Room nurse.

During this Waiting Room time they did a chest x-ray and an EKG. The EKG showed that she has had a heart attack in the near past. We are speculating it was in March when she was having a lot of pain in her back and no appetite. Also, her heart is only functioning at a fraction of what it should be. She also has Atrial-fibrillation (A-Fib). The Atrium part of her heart pumps very rapidly while the rest is pumping normally and can't keep up.

Late this afternoon she was admitted to the hospital and met with a resident Cardiologist. Kathy is keeping in touch with the hospital as much as possible and we will keep you informed as we learn more. Denise's dogs are being cared for.

**As of 9:15 pm tonight (Tuesday) Denise is settled in a room at St. Peter's and will be having a CAT scan at some point tonight or tomorrow morning "so that they don't miss anything" the doctor has said. (Kathy texted with her and briefly spoke to the doctor.)

Please make sure you add Pastor Denise to your prayers.

ps. If you know of someone that doesn't read email please share this information with them.
