“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” - Psalm 23

Ever since I can remember, Psalm 23 has always been my favorite prayer. It was the first prayer that I learned as a child. We prayed it every Sunday in my childhood church, and it has always spoken words of calmness to me, especially the words, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death…"

Over the years, it seems that Psalm 23 has been relegated mostly to funerals, and this is a tragedy. To me, this Psalm isn't about death; it's about living fearlessly and in abundance.

The shepherd of the Psalm, God, is described as someone who can lead us through the scariest of places, all the while casting aside our fear. And God fills our cup, not just until there is enough, but until the cup overflows with so much goodness that we can't help but share it.

In a nation of people terrified of the virus, terrified of people that they see as different, and terrified of our country changing in ways that may no longer benefit one group over other groups, this Psalm offers us a radical alternative. Perhaps we can give God the opportunity to cast aside our fear.

The 23 Psalm reminds us to not live in fear, but to live in faith, and to follow the one who can lead us through the darkest valleys and make them seem like they were well-lit sidewalks.

Friends, we can live out this kind of faith every day. God has already given us more than we need. Don't be afraid. Live boldly, and we will indeed live.

Prayer

God, be our shepherd, and cast out our fear. Help us to follow you into the unknown, and to see the grace that we have already received. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Denise

Join Pastor Denise on Sunday, August 2nd @ 12:30 pm for another drive thru celebration to see your smiling faces. Our last one was so heartwarming and well participated in that we thought it was fitting to do this again.

We will have a Hawaiian theme this time, so wear your favorite shirt or Hawaiian lei. We will give you your 6 month giving report, a Nexus and a couple of other goodies we are working on.

We will be collecting donations for our Preschool during this event. We have been awarded a matching grant from the Pacific Northwest Conference. (For every $2 we receive they will give us $1). To open this year we will be experiencing some unexpected costs. If you are wanting to support our wonderful program that reaches out to 60 families each year you can write a check to the church and mark it “Preschool” in the memo line.

We can’t wait to see you!
