04.15.2020 Devotional

Greetings from our Risen Lord Jesus Christ,

Given all that we have going on in our country and our world, each day, I have been particularly thankful for the great weather.  As I walk the dogs each day, it is a blessing to see the trees and shrubs leafing out and the flowers starting to bloom.

Seeing the changes makes me thankful for the rhythms and the ebb and flow of life.  These changes of nature feel healthy and energizing.  These changes give me a sense of being touched by God’s renewing and energizing Spirit.

I have found that the people in my neighborhood all seemed starved for a bit of renewed energy.  It’s only been a month, but many of us are feeling a need to reach out from our isolation.

Koinonia is the Greek word for fellowship.  It means shared life together. It is the root for words like common and community.  It is a great word for us to know and to demonstrate, even if we demonstrate this fellowship within safe boundaries.

Fellowship means that we can ask each other what’s going on in our lives, how we are doing, and what’s happening in our relationship with God.  We all need a group of Christian brothers and sisters with whom we can share our joys and sorrows, encourage each other, give each other permission to try something new, and freedom to fail as we seek to follow Christ.  It is only as we share deeply of our lives with each other that God strengthens our faith, builds our character, and shapes us into people who embody Christ’s life.

Each Thursday morning at 10:30, several of our congregation members get together for a time of koinonia.  All are invited to join through zoom.  Just let the church office know so that we can send out the link.  If you are feeling the need to stay connected while you isolate, than this small group may be just what you need to feel God’s renewing and energizing spirit.

Peace and Blessings always, and stay safe and healthy.
